Instructions:

For the Easter Egg Americans, first stir vanilla sugar, sugar, butter, salt as well as the eggs to a light cream. Mix the custard powder with the milk and then stir through with the cream, then fold in the flour and baking powder.

If the batter seems too runny, add flour – it should firm up quite a bit.

Then, using two (wet) spoons, shape the dough into an oval shape on the baking sheet lined with parchment paper or greased. With this amount of dough you should get about 12 oval Americans. Bake in the middle of the oven at 190 °C for about 15 minutes until golden brown.

Then stir the sifted powdered sugar with a little bit of water. Reserve a little of the icing. Brush the cooled Americans with the remaining icing.

Stir the reserved frosting through with a very small amount of yellow food coloring (really use very little) and add a little more red food coloring as needed, add a little frosting, etc. until you hit the right shade for an egg yolk.

When the white frosting is dry, add the yellow frosting on top in yolk form. Serve the Easter egg Americans.

Preparation Tip:

The Easter egg Americans are a super gift at Easter time or an eye-catcher at the Easter snack.
