Mix well eggs, the oil, sugar, baking powder and lemon zest. Add flour as needed (experience shows that about 30 tablespoons). The dough should be malleable, but not too firm. Oil a baking tray.

Preheat the oven to about 200 °C. Form small balls from the dough (diameter approx. 3-4 cm). Now form ellipse-shaped cakes from the balls. (If you like, you can fill them with chopped walnuts. The walnut kernels should not be visible). You can press the cakes on a grater to decorate them.

Bake for about 30 minutes until golden brown. The Hormasice must not get too dark, otherwise they will be too hard and will not absorb the syrup. While the Hormasice are in the oven, make the syrup from about 500g sugar, 600ml water and lemon juice. This can also be mixed cold, but if you boil it, it gets a better consistency.

In any case, the sugar must melt completely. As soon as the Hormasice are taken out of the oven, pour the syrup over them. (Attention! Do not pour it all at once). If everything has been done correctly, the syrup will now be absorbed in a flash. Let cool and store the Hormasice in the refrigerator if needed.

Preparation Tip:

Garnish the Hormasice with chopped pistachios.
