Instructions:

To make the shortcrust pastry for the upside-down apple tart, first sift the flour onto the work surface. Press a well in the center and add the sugar, salt, egg, butter and water one by one and knead gently with your fingers until a smooth dough is formed. Wrap in a tea towel or plastic wrap and let rest for at least an hour.

In the meantime, preheat the oven to 200 °C.

Next, place 11 tablespoons of powdered sugar in a large frying pan, spread to a layer about 1 cm thick and moisten with water (a pan with a very thick bottom would be best!).

Peel the apples, remove the core, cut into wedges and spread evenly over the sugar. Pour 100 g liquid butter over the apples and heat the pan slowly. Keep turning the apple slices so that they can nicely absorb the resulting caramel. When the apples are half cooked, remove the frying pan from the heat and pour off the excess liquid.

Now spread the remaining butter in the pan, simply lift the apples slightly for this.

Then roll out the shortbread very thinly and spread it directly over the apples in the pan. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
